julie scheurweghs
Julie Scheurweghs lives and works in Brussels. In 2000, at the age of twelve, she became aware of the poor standard of some advertising campaigns. This inspired her to work with pictures herself. At the same time, she got her first camera, and has not stopped taking photos since. Julie studied photography in high school and afterwards went to the LUCA, School of Arts, from where she graduated in 2010. Since 2013 she has been involved in teaching post- production techniques.
Fascinated by both art and advertising, she soon developed her own style by learning the methodologies of commercial image making but raising the way she uses them above mere exact depictions. Inspired by everything around her, Julie’s photographs mostly show real life situations, even though the work is generally produced in a studio setting.
The decontextualisation of Julie’s images give them an extra dimension, they seem to exist on their own, yet still strike a cord of familiarity with each viewer.
With a passion for portraits and for what she calls everyday still lives, Julie has worked in several different fields of photography and brings her unique vision into each image.
